Katching Payments, and the terms that go with it
Until now, taking card payments on Katching meant bringing your own Stripe account, or your own API keys. There is now a third way, and it is the one the Payments page leads with: Katching becomes your payment provider, on Stripe rails, and you never fill out a payment application to get started.
Activating it
- Open Payments in your admin and click
Activate Katching Payments. - One screen asks for your country and for your agreement to the Katching Payments Terms. The country cannot be changed afterward, which is why we ask instead of guessing it.
- You land back in your admin and you can sell right away. The remaining checks are finished on the same page, while you sell.
- If more is needed later, only your payouts wait. Your store keeps selling.
What it costs
The card rate Stripe publishes for your country, plus a 0.5% Katching platform fee on each payment. A share of each payment (5, 10 or 15 percent of the net, set from your store's profile) is held as a reserve for 90 days, and released payment by payment as it matures.
What your customers see
Their bank statement shows KATCHING followed by your store name.
Refunds
Your customer gets the full amount back, and issuing the refund costs nothing extra. The processing fee and the platform fee charged on the original payment are not returned. That is the same rule the processor publishes for its own processing fees, and it is now written in section 5 of the Katching Payments Terms, which move to version 1.1 today. Nobody had accepted version 1.0, so there is nothing to accept again.
If you already take payments
Nothing changes. A store connected with its own Stripe account, or with its own keys, keeps working exactly as before, and those two options stay on the page under Advanced. One store cannot run both at once: to move over, disconnect Stripe first. The card says so rather than failing on the click.
We are opening Katching Payments store by store. Until it is open for yours, the card stays on your Payments page without its button.
